Center Point-Urbana Class of 2015 | Jylian

Summer can be sweltering in the Midwest with all the of humidity we get. Sometimes, there is no other choice but do portraits on these hot and sweaty days. I recently travelled to Iowa to photograph Jylian for her senior portraits. We were stuck with one of these days. I think she rocked the whole shoot and you'd never know how hot and humid it really was. There were big summer storms rolling in the whole time and we were just trying to stay ahead of them as they got closer and closer. By the end, I could hear thunder and knew we were on borrowed time. We managed to all scramble back in the car, mission accomplished just as it starts pouring. It was an adventure for sure, and one I'm sure Jylian won't forget anytime soon.

I love that she incorporated her interests into her session, including her passion for books and travel.  We found some great locations that blended well with her personality and the iconic Iowa landscape. Her session below is a mix of film and digital. The film is all Kodak Portra 400 and the digital is editing with Mastin Labs portra pack to blend right in with the film files.

Midsummer Night's Garden

I'll keep this short because there are just so many images I'm dying to share from this magical session inspired by Shakespeare's 'Midsummer Night's Dream'. This session was a creative collaboration with good friend and fellow photographer, David Vernon. We both loved the concept and had the perfect location in mind for this shoot. David shot all digital and used flash for a fashion look while I shot all film for an airy dream look.

We had a wonderful team of people who made this dreamy shoot look the way it does. David's wife, and theatre instructor, Kevin, helped with the wardrobe and styling. Her theater students, Tori and Katelynn were our models for the day, donning elegant fairy-like dresses and floral crowns. We spent the afternoon (and Tori's 18th birthday) wandering around tall garden hedges and lounging among peony buds. The lighting was truly magical and I'm very pleased to share this images with you, all captured on film. I'm even holding back a few images that are scheduling to be published in Hearth Magazine next spring, which is very exciting. So, you will just have to wait for the magazine to see those images.

Sneak Peek | Rocker Chic

I just had to share this one sneak peek of Stephanie looking sexy in black and white for our Rocker Chic styled shoot a few weeks ago. When I saw these film scans for the first time, these images on Kodak Tri-X blew me away. I already loved black and white photography, and I just fell even more in love with film. I will be shooting more of this film stock for sure from now on.

Mike & Caitlin

I'm pretty behind on sharing some sessions from this year. I've shot a lot for friends and family and it's nice to work for the people who support you when you are a freelancer. Mike is also a photographer (check out his work here). I always especially honored when another photographer asks me to photograph them. It can be a little nerve wrecking, but at the same time makes you feel so appreciated that another artist respects your work enough to hire you.

I'm pleased to share with you Mike & Caitlin's engagement session. They wanted a simple session with just them in a field being themselves. I love the simplicity of sessions like this, just two people in love - no gimmicks or props. I always think these images tell their own personal story.

These two are getting married this Saturday and I'm sure it will be a good time. I can't wait to see you guys get hitched. Best wishes to you and thanks for honoring me by letting me capture your love.

Makeup Artist & Stylist | Rachel Corbly

When it comes to getting your hair and makeup done for your senior portrait session, I've got you covered. I've got a girl for that. That's right, I claim her as mine. :) This is the lovely and fun, Rachel Corbly. She is both a makeup artist and hair stylist. She's worked with other photographers for portrait, commercial, and styled editorial shoots and I've been so lucky to have her do all of the great natural portrait looks for my senior girls and models.

I want you to feel beautiful and show off your natural beauty and Rachel knows exactly how to make you feel great and look camera ready while still maintaining your natural beauty. She will help you create a style and take the guess work and stress out of getting ready for your photoshoot. So, please let me introduce you to Rachel.

Class of 2015 Urban Model Session | Katie

Yep, you read that right. This gorgeous girl is only a sophomore. She kindly stepped in front of my camera along with her sister, Christa. Maybe she will come back and see me when she's a senior herself, although you'd never know she wasn't by these images. She's naturally comfortable in front of camera and she'll be a pro by the time 2015 rolls around. I said the same thing about her sister, but seriously both of these girls have outstandingly gorgeous eyes. I always wanted those big eyes. I got stuck with one squinty eye in photos instead. Ha!I also have to give a big shout out to my wonderful makeup artist and stylist, Rachel Corbly for making Katie and all my girls this year look amazing.

Illinois Valley Central Class of 2013 | Christa

As it's nearing in on the holidays and the end of 2012, I have just a few more sessions to share. I had the pleasure of photographing a pair of sisters a few weeks back and both girls were so relaxed and chill during their sessions. Meet Christa. She's a IVC senior whose starting to think about college life and possibly studing fashion, which I think is pretty sweet. We found some great locations around downtown Peoria that matched her outfits and style well and I love how it all came together. Check out her amazingly gorgeous eyes! Are you kidding me, with that color? I mean there wasn't a background that didn't just make them pop out!

Stayed tuned for Christa's sister, Katie. Her session is coming up next.
